Party Fun--A Multimedia ESL Flash Website
This is our final project, it's a Multimedia ESL Flash website (or more like a Flash Project) designed for children age from 8 to 12 with very limited English ability. By following the directions in this site, they will have a chance to practice their listening and spelling skills through interesting tasks. Read a more detailed description by Anita.

Though you do not choose either webquest or weblog as your final project format, we think your work is indeed impressive and refreshing; it definitely can arouse children’s attention as well as interests. Excellent and creative work you have done! You must spend many time and efforts in using the technical tools and designs. It is so glad to see you put what we have learned in class (e.g. Hot Potatoes) into practice. We are really fond of your work. But if there must come any suggestion, well, it seems that some of the recording voices in the flash are not so clear, especially in the second game. I know you would like to create the situation in a party, so the surrounding might be sort of noisy, but it would be better if the voice can be pronounced a bit louder and clear (maybe is the recording tool has to blame). In addition, when I play the second and first game (filling banks), somehow I have to keep pressing my mouse tightly so that I can type. This is a technical problem and probably it can be improved. :) (by Celia and Julie)

First, we want to express my admiration with this website. However, we want to clearly point out that if it is a WebQuest or a Weblog according to the requirement set before? This website includes no introduction to tell the learners what’s about this project, no evaluation criteria for learners to evaluate their learning, and no conclusion to give a total cognition about the whole process. The learning target? The learning objectives?
Besides, we think there’s a little problem with the activity on the flash page. First is about the invitation. The invitation part has the blanks fillings. But what if learners type the right answers but not the exact answer set before? Like “6/30” or “June 30th”? we think it is just a little problem I thought of during the presentation. As to the food part, we think it is quite good to mix the picture and the pronunciation with the vocabulary guess. However, we think it provides little things for learners to “learn and explore for themselves.” It is actually connected if this group set up their goal according to the instruction on the syllabus. For the party recording part, we think it is great to use multimedia to be integrated in the activity so that it looks great and fun. We think the recording is a little bit too long and with some unnecessary noise, but I think it’s great enough.
Totally, I think this website is designed in an interesting and attractive way. It’s a very good job. However, it still misses the objective set before. If there’s an introduction and more materials for learners to learn by themselves, it will be perfect. I just think it lacks a complete structure or format to be the lead and the ending.
Group 2 Evaluation:
1.Creativity:
It’s so professional; it’s hard to imagine this was all made by Eleanor herself! The design is good and clear, the game is fun, and of course, this is creative and original. But on the other hand, this may not be so original since many of the language learning software was designed the same way.
2.Content:
It’s helpful to learn by play, but I’m more curious about what could this be classed? A weblog? A webquest? Or a website. This sure has surpassed what the class has demanded; your group makes it to the next level as self-made software like website to play games. The content therefore fits into teaching function for children. But the title is a bit not so attractive, but again, it may fit into the target learner’s low language proficiency, since they would not know much about English, the easier and simpler the title the better.
3.Target:
To make the target student as age 8-12 kids, this fit for them to practice and learn from games. Still, I wonder how you would make a more complex game for high-intermediate level learners. It will be something, I guess.
4.General:
This is generally a mature website, it is fun even for us!
